Wisconsin Veterans Museum to Close on Mondays

(MADISON)— The Wisconsin Veterans Museum announces new service hours starting Monday, January 30, 2012, when the main Museum galleries and gift store at 30 West Mifflin Street, Madison, will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and Sunday Noon to 4:00 p.m. (April through September). The Research Center on 3rd floor will remain open to the public Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The new schedule closes the Museum galleries and store on Mondays, allowing staff the opportunity to safely conduct routine exhibit and operational maintenance within those spaces. Monday closures are routine in the museum profession, and are common for a variety of reasons. These include cost savings but are more commonly linked to the need to have vacant galleries at least one day per week to allow for physical plant maintenance, cleaning and artifact rotation and exhibit maintenance. Approximately 75 percent of regional museums surveyed close on Mondays, including the Wisconsin Historical Museum, Chazen Museum of Art and Milwaukee Art Museum.

Please visit our updated and redesigned website at www.wisvetsmuseum.com for more information about public programs, hours of operation and various online resources.

Wisconsin Veterans Museum staff members look forward to continuing to serve our members and the public. Should you have any questions, contact Kristine Zickuhr, Assistant Director, at (608) 261-6802.

The Wisconsin Veterans Museum is a free public educational activity of the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs and is located at 30 W. Mifflin St., across the street from the State Capitol. For more information on the Museum, visit www.wisvetsmuseum.com.
