Using the Database
You can search the database by any combination of Name, Rank, Unit, City, County, or Notes. If you are on a desktop, you must click the “Search” button with your mouse. Pressing “Enter” will not execute the search. Please contact the Reference Archivist if you have noticed an error in the database or if you have any other questions or concerns about the database.

When searching this field, remember to try alternate spellings (e.g. Hanson and Hansen).
This field is most useful for searching if you know the exact rank of the soldier (i.e. Private, First Lieutenant, etc.).
This field contains both the company and the regiment in this format: Company A, 1st Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. If you would like to search with this field, please enter the soldier’s information in that format.
Most of the companies from Wisconsin were drawn from a particular community and its surrounding towns and villages. This field contains the name of that community.
Useful for searching for all veterans from a particular county.
This field contains information about transfers to different units or details of casualties.
